Bartholomeus Klip is just over an hour from Cape Town, in the heart of the Western Cape's countryside. It is a hidden gem for anyone looking to explore the winelands from a less commercial angle. It is also a haven for outdoorsy folk who like walking, hiking, mountain biking, fishing and generally enjoying a remote and stunning private nature reserve. The property is certified Fair Trade and does a huge amount for conservation and helping local communities.

The food! The cuisine at Bartholomeus Klip is everyone's lasting memory and rightly so! Famous chef Louise Gillet produces wonderful gourmet dishes using local produce from the farm, that is both mouthwateringly good and utterly memorable. Combined with fantastic wines and a beautiful candle lit conservatory setting, the dining experience at Bartholomeus Klip is second to none

Need to Know

The main house has 5 double en-suites, and Wild Olive house sleeps a further 7 and makes an ideal exclusive house for families. There is a lovely big swimming pool and a stunning lake with the dramatic Elandskloof Mountains towering above. The lake has a deckhouse fully equipped with paddle boats, kayaks, fishing rods, binoculars, bird books and a bar.


Walking, Driving, Fishing Bartholomeus Klip has a 4000 hectare nature reserve and, while there are plenty of plains game to spot, the main attraction is the Fynbos, the wonderful spring flowers, and the rare endemic species such as the Geometric Tortoise.

The Quagga (reintroduced by a specialised breeding program), over 300 eland, springbuck, black wildebeest,  mountain zebra and bontebok. Many other animals, such as baboons, bat-eared foxes, lynxes  and cape foxes are also often spotted.

Buffalo breeding programme which has been going since 1999. The aim is to re-introduce disease free buffalo into the Wild .There is 55 animals in the project and guests are able to view this upclose in their camps.(Not in the Reserve)

The bird life includes Ostrich, black eagles, blue cranes, fish eagles, kingfishers and flamingoes.
