Time + Tide Luwi Camp

Situated deep in the national park on the ephemeral Luwi River, Time + Tide Luwi Camp is wonderfully remote, with no other camps for miles around. Tranquility envelops this camp, creating a wilderness haven that allows you to reconnect with nature in a meaningful way. Nestled in a grove of ancient mahogany trees, the tented suites are designed to fully immerse guests into the bush experience. From the comfort of your open air lounge, watch the diverse wildlife wandering by on the grassy floodplains. Listen to the hippos bellowing in the nearby lagoon and breathe in the heady aroma of African jasmine drifting past on a cool breeze. Sit back and let the peace of this place wash over you.

Venture into one of the most game rich areas of the national park with our award winning guiding team on game drives and walking safaris. The South Luangwa is renowned for its world class predator action, with especially strong sightings of the elusive leopard. In the South Luangwa, expect large herds of elephants and rivers packed with hippos and crocs. Diverse habitat supports a wide variety of plains game and birdlife alongside the predators attracted to the abundance.

There is a large hippo filled lagoon close by with a ‘hide’ for guests to watch the animals unnoticed high above the water. Walking safaris from camp usually finish here with sundowners, watching the sunset over a landscape unchanged for thousands of years. This permanent water source attracts wildlife from far and wide making the camp area constantly busy with animals.

Need to Know

Luwi was one of the South Luangwa National Park's first remote safari camps. Norman and Adrian sited the camp back in the 1980s and today this camp epitomizes the legacy of Norman Carr. The camp barely has an impact on the environment being built with natural materials and dismantled at the end of each season

Typically your day will start early around the camp fire when you will discuss the noises and animals heard through the night.

Your morning walking safari is likely to take three to four hours returning you to camp in time for a hearty brunch.

Wildlife HighlightsWildlife Highlights

The wildlife in the area is prolific and memories of the experience of tracking big game on foot last a lifetime.

Luwi is an authentic and magical remote bush camp which makes it the perfect camp for walking safaris.

The rooms, which are built each season using natural materials, blend into the bush and are simple yet extremely comfortable with en-suite bathrooms and “all day” hot showers. With the emphasis on the use of natural materials in its construction, this camp is one of the most traditional of all of the Luangwa safari camps but still offers high levels of comfort and service.
