Abu Camp

Abu Camp offers a rare African experience that showcases the magnificent wildlife and landscape of the Okavango Delta; a safari that will transform your perceptions of elephants, wilderness, and life itself. Pioneered in the early 1990s, and named after a much-mourned bull elephant, Abu Camp has been running for 20 years, and as such is the original elephant safari experience in Africa. The vast 180,000 hectare (450,000 acre) private and exclusive Abu Concession is set within the unspoilt pristine wilderness area of the Okavango Delta.

Highlights

As a guest of Abu Camp, you are invited to walk with and ride elephants, to get a glimpse of their world and learn about their lives. Becoming part of an African elephant herd is an extraordinary privilege that we seek to share with those who visit us.

Need to Know

The Abu herd offers an incomparable opportunity to intimately engage and physically interact with elephants through varied activities. By the time you leave Abu, you will feel a special, emotional connection to the herd which is nothing less than humbling and rewarding.

SafarisSafaris

Abu Camp creates an environment where the experience is centred around the bond between the guests and the elephants but also the bond between the guests themselves. During your stay you are invited to immerse yourself in the elephant herd. Explore the pristine environment with the herd, and get to know the personalities of each family member, from playful babies to precocious teenagers and doting mothers, all led by the sage, experienced matriarch, Cathy. Elephant activities are offered daily.

Wildlife HighlightsWildlife Highlights

Most widespread is the very large and important elephant population, which roams throughout the area, as do large buffalo herds. Plains game that occurs in the area includes general game species such as impala, red lechwe, tsessebe, zebra, wildebeest warthog, buffalo and giraffe as well as herds of wild elephant.
