African Environments

African Environments is Tanzanian based safari company that has been operating for three decades. We specialize in luxury Kilimanjaro climbs and walking safaris as well as unique ‘off the beaten track’ adventures. The camps are 100% solar with attention paid to the things that we feel that matter; good food and drinks, stunning views, great service and many memorable moments.

Striving to be different! - many safari companies offer the same product - drive around and look at animals and then stay in a passable/lovely/sumptuous property for the night and do the same thing the next day. At African Environments we try to get you away from the throngs and experience some real Africa - whether its walking in the wilderness of the Serengeti, learning to light a fire with the Hadza or climbing to the snowy peak of Kilimanjaro camps are based on the ethos of low environmental impact, our fresh and varied food, surprise bush lunches and ‘kutta kutta’ picnics - we hate the normal lunch boxes! - are highlights. But most of all its the guides and unique off the beaten track places we will take you to.

Need to Know

African Environments has three semi-permanent camps; Mysigio at Ngorongoro, Pembezoni in the Serengeti NP and Itikoni in Arusha NP that is perfect for bush walks, Mt Meru expeditions. We also specialize in mobile walking safaris with camps that are located in the vast untouched wilderness area of the Serengeti NP, Ngorongoro or in Lake Eyasi region showcasing the interesting Hadzabe and Massai cultures.

We have our fleet of rugged 4x4 Landcruisers. Our driver guides and walking safari guides are not only charming and fun but also hugely experienced in the bush. Our aim is always to get you away from the herds or safari cars and into the remote wildlife spots and to inform and entertain you in a unique and personal style. Then to get you out of the car and really experience the sights, smells and sounds of Africa.

Wildlife HighlightsWildlife Highlights

Our Walking Safari Camp moves daily in the vast Serengeti wilderness allowing wildlife both large and small to be examined at close range - incredibly exhilarating. From December to March the Pembezoni Luxury Camp is located at Naabi Hill with thousands of Wildebeest and Zebra at its doorstep. June to October it is in Seronera region surrounded by the beginnings of the migration as well as resident elephant, many lion, buffalo, impala, gazelles and hyena.

Local ActivitiesLocal Activities

African Environments has a long standing relationship with a Maasai community in Ngorongoro who, from our Mysigio Camp invite guests to take part in traditional ceremonies and dancing. Experiencing the fascinating Hadzabe tribe can be incorporated into a safari or walking safari itinerary. Guests will authentically tag along with the clan as they hunt for small mammals and birds or forage for plants, roots and berries. We work with both these communities to offer support from building a library for the primary school to helping the Hadza get ownership of their land.

From the luxurious tents or our seasonal camps to the smaller lighter ones in the wilderness camps every effort it made to make a stay comfortable whilst remaining in touch with the countryside and wildlife theme. Inverters in all of our vehicles and camps for charging phone and camera batteries. Each Driver Guide has a set of binoculars in the vehicle. Water bottles can be refilled in our camp as we have safe drinking water from Katadyn filters. Trying to minimize the use of plastic water bottles and generally reduce our impact on the fragile areas we travel.

Twelve massive, comfortably appointed ensuite tents at Mysigio Camp in Ngorongoro, nine at Pembezoni Camp in the Serengeti. Whilst in Itikoni Camp set in Arusha NP there are nine traditional safari style tents. Our two 'go anywhere' Walking Safari Camps are perfect for exploring and can be moved in a day - truly mobile. They can each take up to 10 clients and still serve our fantastic food. . All African Environment tents have hot bucket-style showers, proper beds with thick comfortable mattresses and bedding. All the camps are focused on luxury AND responsible travel and minimal impact.

Certified by Responsible Tourism Tanzania at Seed level and working on our next level. Environmental Audit by Carbon Tanzania extoled our camps as the most environmentally friendly in Tanzania. Awarded 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013 World Tourism Day sustainability award.

We recommend December – March or June – October.

Children PolicyChild Policy

Children are welcome at all of our camps. We work hard to make alternatives to game viewing for children - activities and short walk with the Maasai and the Hadza for younger children and for the slightly older there is absolutely nothing like our Serengeti walking Safaris for getting them engaged with the wilderness and ecosystem.
