Enonkishu Conservancy

Country

Kenya

A private partnership between local communities and private enterprise conserving natural resources, wildlife and heritage in an increasingly fragile ecosystem on the edge of the Maasai Mara...

About Us

The Naretoi estate used to be an intensive farm under pivot irrigation. The founders of Naretoi have returned the farm back into its natural state, restoring habitats and enhancing biodiversity. The Naretoi project is essential for the sustainability of the Enonkishu Conservancy, and will secure the wildlife grazing land in the surrounding 10,000 acres, as well as working with the community to maintain heritage and broaden livelihood opportunities.

Mission Statement

To form a unique relationship, generating revenue from tourism and improved holistic cattle management to ultimately improve conditions in the conservancy for communities, wildlife & cattle, so enhancing overall revenues for all.

Projects

A Savory Hub is being established on the Enonkishu conservancy through the Mara Beef Company which is working with the Maasai community on improving the livestock husbandry and the genetics for the local pastoralists by introducing high quality beef breeds such as Aberdeen Angus and Boran to their herds. The Mara Beef Company is also opening market access for the Maasai pastoralists and introducing an improved holistic grazing management plan. This in turn improves the numbers of wildlife so that the livestock and wildlife within Enonkishu are managed in an integrated and sustainable manner.
