Lupita Island, a remote unspoiled romantic island. 130 acres of uninhabited space with only Lupita Lodge as its’ occupants. Surrounded by water and not a tourist in site. The nearest other lodge is at least 170kms away. Our gym overlooks the far horizon and miles of crystal clear water. Nearby the wellness studio is available for massages and treatments to relax - both the mind and body! Enjoy our water sports in one of the least polluted bodies of water in the world, holding 8% of the worlds fresh water. Fish with local fisherman, with a handline, an experience that will not be easily forgotten. Visit local fishing villages, which have been unchanged for centuries.

Lupita Lodge is nestled in a cluster of small islands on Lake Tanganyika, the only island cluster on the lake. 4km from the shore and the nearest mainland village, Kipili. 170km from Mahale Mountains Nat. Park in the North and 140kms from the Zambian border in the south. Located in a remote location, Lupita Island is accessible by air. Just a short 15 minute boat ride from Lupita's private airstrip on the mainland near the tiny fishing village of Kipili.

Lupita Island offers amazing fishing and snorkelling with an abundance of freshwater wildlife. there is no big game but the region does have primates (not on Lupita).

Besides the above mentioned swimming pool, gym and spa there are many more activities to experience while on Lupita. Hiking with our local guide, visiting local fishing villages, or the ancient monastery on the mainland built in the 18th century by the Christian fathers.  Swim, kayak or snorkel in the crystal clear waters of beautiful Lake Tanganyika, take a guide to discover and snorkel the many underwater coves abound with tiny cychlids and other fish. Take a wonderfully relaxing spa treatment or a vigorous workout in the gym.

Enjoy a fully catered fun beach day on one of the many deserted beaches in the area.

Enjoy a romantic sunset cruise as the sun sinks below the horizon. Or go fishing on one of our motor boats using our fishing equipment and rods or try your hand the old fashioned way with a local fishermen and no technology except an oar and a hand line as they have done for centuries. Of course, relaxing around the pool with a good book and a cocktail is a wonderful option as well. 


Lupita Island Resort maintains a fully equipped gymnasium, perfect for those wanting a casual tone-up or an energizing fullbody workout. Top off exercise in our spa with a private massage with our wonderfully experienced therapist. Lie and relax by the main pool situated away from the main areas. Or just lie by your own pool in your cottage and leave the world behind. A butler is on hand to see to all your needs. 


Lupita Island has 10 exquisitely crafted cottages with breathtaking lake and mountain views. The individual cottages are all open which ensures balmy breezes and memorable sunsets that will last a lifetime. They are all designed to be as comfortable and private as possible. They all have gracious living areas with a bar, separate and spacious bedchambers, and large open verandas. All cottages have their own private plunge pool and sunning deck, hot waterfall showers and large outside baths.The Livingstone and Stanley suites cater for families, these both have an additional sleeping area and bathroom, and the option of private dining, and - of course, the plunge pool! 


Lupita Island is open the whole year round, having its own eco system the wonderful temperature at Lupita is barely different throughout the year. However, the rains are normally with us from mid March to mid May and November into December. So although the rains at these times are not constant it is a good idea to take rain gear in case of being caught in a downpour from time to time.

Children PolicyChild Policy

Children of 5 years and older are welcome at Lupita Island. However a parent or guardian must always be on hand. Children from 5 to 12 are @ 50% while sharing with an adult. Up to two children under 12 will be allowed to share with two adults. Please note that Lupita lodge is very spread out and there are swimming pools at each cottage plus some simple wildlife so care must be taken that very young children are not left to roam around unaccompanied.
