Mukambi Safari Lodge

Mukambi Safaris

Surrounded by one of the world’s largest areas of unspoilt wilderness, lies Mukambi Safari Lodge, overlooking the Kafue River. Mukambi Safaris has three properties in Kafue National Park, Mukambi Safari Lodge,Mukambi Plains Campand Fig Tree Bush Camp.

The Kafue National Park is arguably one Africa’s largest national parks. It measures 22,480 square kilometers, which is more than enough to carry the vast and diverse species found on this beautiful stretch of land. Mukambi Safaris brings you three exclusive properties found in the most breathtaking locations within the park. Our main lodge, Mukambi Safari Lodge, lies on the banks of the Kafue River and our Plains Camp is situated in the heart of the Busanga plains. Fig Tree, our most recent addition to Mukambi is situated 20km west of our main lodge and offers a beautiful view of a lagoon and our very own white sandy beach. These three locations offer beautiful scenery, peace and tranquility along with the best service anywhere for a hundred miles.

With Mukambi Safaris you will be able to enjoy the river and its inhabitants from our large and relaxing viewing decks all the facilities offer. Some of the animals you might see are hippo, crocodile, antelope and plenty of birds. On the opposite side of the river (or even in the camp) you might see your first elephant, lion, leopard and buffalo as all our camps are not fenced thus allowing animals to wonder around freely.

All Mukambi Safari’s camps have 24 hours per day 100% renewable solar energy.

Mukambi Safari Lodge

Mukambi Safari Lodge is located centrally in Kafue National Park right on the banks of the beautiful Kafue River and within easy reach of Kafue National Park.

An easy and casual atmosphere with the flexibility a small lodge can offer makes the days varied and exciting.

Activities consist of game drives in open-canopy vehicles, boat and fishing trips along with walking safaris where you are likely to see Elephant, Lion, and Leopard, cheetah, Puku, Hippo and many other mammals. The park also hosts an incredible variety of birds.

Back at the lodge our delicious food, friendly staff and comfortable accommodation will make your stay an unforgettable one. Our accommodation consists of a luxurious Riverside Villa, which has its own viewing deck and our comfortable en-suite chalets, eight in total. There are also four luxury safari tents, all on stilts with a deck overlooking the river. On the deck there is a ball and claw bathtub which makes for fantastic star gazing at night.

Mukambi Plains Camp, Busanga

The Plains Camp is the seasonal bush camp of Mukambi Safaris located deep in the heart of the famous Busanga Plains, a stunning wetland area. The Plains Camp is an exciting six-hour game drive through the Kafue National Park. The camp in Busanga offers an intimate experience with our tented accommodation in the middle of the flood plain. Access is over a slightly long walkway over the flood plains that offer an all round viewwhere many animals can be seen.

A safari on the Busanga Plains takes you back to the days in which a safari took you on an exciting trip to reach your destination and every journey called for a sense of adventure and a desire to explore the unknown.

The Plains Camp has four luxury safari tents with showers and flushing toilets. The Boma is on stilts and overlooks the Plains where Lion and Cheetah prey on large herds of Lechwe, Puku and Buffalo. Crowned and Wattled Cranes, Secretary birds and Ground Hornbill stalk the plains where the openness is only interrupted by tree studded islands, where fig trees and wild date palms draw their nutrients from the remains of giant anthills. Busanga, a landscape so distinctive, it is like no other you will see in Africa.

Fig Tree Bush Camp

In June 2015 Mukambi Safaris opened a new bush camp in an undiscovered part of Kafue National Park.  It is just 1hr 30 minutes away from the lodge and is named after the giant fig tree next to the boma(restaurant area).

The camp has tented accommodation on 3-meter highplatforms above the ground, giving a spectacularview of the lagoon and the plains at the entrance of the camp. Along with the tented accommodation is a Boma next to the Fig tree overlooking our unique sandy beach, and giving a lovely view of the lagoon where a variety of animals come todrink.

The beautiful location in combination with spectacular accommodation and the variety of wildlife are the main attractions (not to mention the remoteness of the Camp and as always the good food).

With Mukambi Safari lodges you will be able to enjoy Africa to the max. We pride ourselves with comfortable accommodation, good food, friendly and experienced staff, and exciting safaris. These features together will make your stay unforgettable.  Safaris with Mukambi in Kafue National Park are among the best in Africa and with our incredible staff you are guaranteed to yearn for more.
