Camp Zebra

Like the animal it is named after, ‘Camp Zebra’ follows the great wildebeest migration to the Northern part of the Serengeti National Park from July till October each year and to the Southern part from December till March.

Whilst in the North, the camp is located in the Kogatende area very close to the banks of the Mara River from where our guests are able to enjoy the incredible spectacle of the river crossings. In the South it is situated close by the Ndutu plains where our guests are able to view the Wildebeest during their famous calving season.

In June and November each year, the camp is set up in central Serengeti. The precise location is dictated by the movements of the wildebeest herds in order that our guests are able to fill their days enjoying this natural phenomenon.

Camp Zebra is closed from the beginning of April till the end of May each year.

Unlike many other so called "mobile camps" which stay put in one located for months if not years at a time, Camp Zebra is a camp which actually moves four times a year in order to afford our guests the best possible wildebeest migration viewing experience.

The camp is available for both 'drive-in' as well as 'fly-in' Safaris since Intimate Places maintains a fleet of 4 x 4 Safari cars with highly trained guides.

Need to Know

Protection of the environments in which Camp Zebra operates is very high on our list of priorities since long term sustainability is key to the very survival of our company. For this reason, Intimate Places have continued to invest heavily in green technolgies.

With effect from January 2016, Camp Zebra turned to solar power for all of its energy requirements and a standby generator is kept in camp for use only in case of poor weather. Other inititiatives include:

  • The use of environmentally-friendly biodegradable chemicals to breakdown toilet waste.
  • The use of especially designed and energy efficient water heaters.
  • The use of recycled wood 'briquettes' for camp fires.
  • The transportation of all of the camps waste to Arusha where it is recycled by TENA

Intimate Places offers a number of Safari itineraries which are built exclusively around our portfolio of properties. Details of these may be obtained by visiting our website at

A commission structure is offered on the rates quoted to all bona-fide tour operators.

Wildlife HighlightsWildlife Highlights

The main focus of 'Camp Zebra' is the great wildebeest migration and our aim is always to get as close as possible to the large herds. That said, the very many thousands of wildebeest and zebra attract a great many predators and so sightings of lion, leopard and cheetah to name but a few are very common.

The Serengeti National Park, in which the camp spends the largest part of each year, is arguably Tanzania's best known national park. Great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe and thousands upon thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impalla and Grants gazelle can be seen and enjoyed all year around.

Local ActivitiesLocal Activities

Depending upon the location of the camp at any given moment, guests are also able to participate in Balloon Safaris although arrangements for this need normally to be made prior to their arrival in Tanzania. Bush lunches and walking Safaris can also be arranged for those guests who enjoy getting closer to nature.

Accommodation tents, family tents, day tent, lounge tent, all-inclusive bar, room service, laundry services, camp fire wireless internet (depending upon camp location).

‘Camp Zebra’ has 6 accommodation tents only, all of which can be used for single, double or triple occupancy.

Each sleeping tent consists of a bedroom area, dressing area and ensuite shower and flush toilet. The dressing area, shower and toilet are all “open air” so as to heighten the experience of living as one with your surroundings. Despite being able to enjoy some breathtaking views as you prepare yourself for the day ahead, privacy is still assured due to the clever design of our tents. As an added convenience, each tent is provided with sufficient electricity for lighting as well as for charging mobile telephones, cameras, tablets, laptop computers or any other electronic devices you may carry with you.

All tents at Camp Zebra feature our unique star-gazer windows located in the roof above the bed(s).

Camp Zebra forms part of our 'Intimate Camps' operation. Intimate Camps was voted the best mobile Safari camp in Tanzania by the  'Good Safari Guide' for 2015 and received the runner-up prize for 2016. Our camps also received awards in the catergories of "best cuisine," "most romantic destination" as well as for the value for money which we provide to our guests.

Camp Zebra has one season only throughout the year except for in April and May when it is closed.
